ILOILO -- A roll-on roll-off (RORO) bus of Valismo bus line caught fire in Barangay Marimbong, Lambunao, Iloilo Tuesday morning.

The bus as well as the baggage of about 23 passengers were totally burned.

The bus came from Tagbak terminal in Iloilo City and was travelling along the central part of Iloilo province when the incident occurred.

Some passengers told ABS-CBN News that they smelled a burning electrical wire before the fire broke. They said bus driver Jerry Mascala allegedly ignored the smell when the fire suddenly flared up.

It took almost 30 minutes for firefighters to arrive in the area.

Fortunately, the passengers were able to escape from the burning bus.

They are temporarily seeking shelter at a barangay hall.

The passengers are appealing for the bus company to pay for the damages brought about by the incident.

The cost of damage caused by the blaze is estimated at P7 million.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
