ILOILO CITY -- The Office of the Ombudsman has dismissed the complaint filed by former Iloilo Provincial Administrator Manuel Mejorada against officials involved in the construction of the Iloilo Convention Center.

The Ombudsman dismissed the complaint after it did not find strong evidence against the officials who were allegedly involved in malversation of public funds, plunder, grave misconduct and dishonesty.

Among the officials named in the complaint were Senator Franklin Drilon, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Sec. Rogelio Singson, Department of Tourism (DOT) Sec. Ramon Jimenez Jr., Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) Administrator Mark Lapid, DPWH USec. Jaime Pacanan, DPWH Region 6 Director Edilberto Tayao, DPWH Bid Chairman Marilyn Celiz, and Romeo Momo.

Mejorada has expressed disappointment over the decision. He, however, assured the public that this does not end his advocacy, as he is planning to file a motion for reconsideration.

It was in October 2014 when Mejorada filed his complaint against the alleged overpricing of the one billion-peso Iloilo Convention Center.

The DPWH has already denied these accusations, adding that construction only cost P700 million. -- report from Jennifer Garcia, ABS-CBN News Iloilo
