MANILA - A van driver was found dead, his body bruised and tied up, in a far-flung area in the town of Manaoag in Pangasinan, police said Tuesday.
The body of Joel Lulu was found in Manaoag on May 10. According to his family, Lulu was supposed to bring his passengers from Macabebe, Pampanga to Clark last May 9.
His wife feared that something went wrong when she lost contact with her husband a few hours after he went on his trip.
A closed-circuit television (CCTV) video footage in Macabebe showed the silver Toyota Grandia van Lulu was driving. He waited for his passengers part 5 p.m. A few minutes after, a group of four men and a woman boarded the van and left.
Authorities said Lulu was beaten up first before he was killed. The perpetrators took the van, Lulu's mobile phone, and his wallet, which contained P30,000 in cash.
Investigation on the incident is ongoing. Authorities are now looking for Lulu's passengers, who allegedly used fake names to book the trip.
They are also investigating whether the group behind Lulu's death is the same group behind similar incidents of theft in Bulacan and Pampanga.
One of the victims was Jojo Santiago, who was also found dead in Binalonan, Pangasinan last December. - report from Raffy Dantos, ABS-CBN News
