MANILA – The board of canvassers in the province of Batangas has proclaimed reelectionist Vilma Santos as governor.
The Liberal Party bet won by a landslide against two independent bets, Marcos Mandanas and Praxedes Bustamante.
As of 12:44 a.m. Wednesday, Santos had 659,809 votes while Mandanas had 41,670 votes. Bustamante received only 4,282 votes.
Santos’ runningmate Mark Leviste also won by a landslide in the vice gubernatorial race with 596,320 votes against Rommel Arguelles, who only received 72,424 votes.
On Monday, Santos was accompanied by her family in casting her vote at Inosluban Elementary School in Lipa City.
Santos went to her precinct with her husband, Ralph Recto, and sons Luis Manzano and Christian Recto.
Actress Jennylyn Mercado, the girlfriend of Luis, also accompanied Santos.
Santos, dubbed as the local film industry's "Star for All Seasons," earlier credited her constituents for the "good name" she has earned as a public servant in Batangas. -- Report from Arnell Ozaeta, dzMM
