MANILA, Philippines – Volcanic activity in Taal Volcano is being closely monitored, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Saturday.
Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum told radio dzMM on Saturday that while Alert Level 2 is still hoisted over Taal, they are closely monitoring sudden hazardous steam-driven explosions and the accumulation of high concentrations of toxic gases.
Intrusion of magma that may lead to a magmatic eruption is also being watched, although there has been no indication that this will occur soon.
Solidum reminded the public that the Main Crater, Daang Kastila Trail and Mt. Tabaro are strictly off-limits.
Since Friday, 5 volcanic earthquakes were recorded in Taal, said Phivolcs. -- With a Report from dzMM
