PNP monitoring 41 private armed groups

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is monitoring at least 41 private armed groups which may sow violence in the upcoming mid-term elections this Monday.

Deputy Director Ager Ontog, commander of PNP Task Force Secure and Fair Elections (SAFE) 2013, said that based on their intelligence report, there are 10 private armed groups in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), 10 in Region 12 (SOCCSKSARGEN), 5 in Region 1 (Ilocos Region). The rest are scattered in various provinces around the country.

Ontog vowed to stop these private armed groups from carrying out illegal activities in the days leading up to May 13 and on the day itself. – report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
