Kidnapped mayoralty candidate released in Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines - A kidnapped mayoralty candidate in Oriental Mindoro has been released by his abductors, police said Tuesday.

Chief Superintendent Paul Mascariñas, Mimaropa regional police chief, said incumbent Vice-Mayor Erwin Maravilla was found unconscious in front of his beach resort in Barangay Tacligan, San Teodoro town around 8:25 p.m.

Maravilla has been brought to a hospital in Calapan City.

The vice-mayor was abducted Sunday night by 4 unidentified gunmen in Barangay Calangatan. -- Report from Noel Alamar, radio dzMM
