MANILA - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) may delay the elections in some parts of Albay depending on the activities of Mayon Volcano, which spewed ash on Tuesday morning.

Chairman Sixto Brillantes says the poll body is now in touch with local election officials to check on the status in the area.

"We’re monitoring…di naman siguro buong probinsya, probably in certain municipalities, depending on the extent of the damages,” he said.

Brillantes says eruption is a "good ground for postponement…."

Five people, four of whom are foreigners, were killed by falling rocks after Mayon Volcano spewed ash, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

Seven hikers were also reported injured.
