MANILA, Philippines - One person was hurt in a assassination attempt on a candidate for councilor during a Lakas-Kampi-CMD political rally in Tinambac town, Camarines Sur, Friday night.

Major Harold Cabunhoc, spokesman of the Philippine Army's 9th Infantry Division, said a suspected hitman of the New People's Army (NPA) hitman approached Tinambac councilor candidate Danilo Magno during the political rally in Barangay Lupi around 7 p.m.

Cabunhoc said the gunman tried to fire his gun, but failed, giving Magno an opportunity to escape.

The gunman fired again, but failed to hit the councilor candidate and instead injured Bobby Llorella, personal driver of Tinambac vice-mayoralty bet Irvin Borja.

Police failed to arrest the gunman.

Cabunhoc said Magno is the 2nd local candidate attacked by the NPA in Camarines Sur.
