MANILA, Philippines – A local candidate died due to heat stroke while in the thick of her campaign in Isabela.
Vicenta Espiritu, a candidate for councilor in Tumauini, Isabela allegedly suffered hypertension due to the hot weather.
Espiritu was giving a speech when she suddenly fell unconscious. She died at the hospital.
“Hindi nga ako maniwala nung sinabi sa akin na isinugod siya sa ospital kasi wala naman siya sakit, healthy naman,” said Espiritu’s husband, Delfin.
Dr. Noel Gonzales of the Municipal Health Office said the number of people suffering from hypertension doubled in Tumauini because of the weather.
“Dumami yung inaatake ng hypertension ngayon lalo na yung nasa middle age yung 30's dahil sa matinding init,” said Dr. Gonzales. Julius Camba, ABS-CBN Isabela
