BATANGAS, Philippines – A non-government organization (NGO) named Barako Batangas took advantage of the influx of passengers at Batangas Port Wednesday by handing out leaflets that discussed HIV/AIDS and other sexually-transmitted diseases.

While the leaflet’s topic raised eyebrows of some passengers, several who were more receptive were in for a surprise enclosed in the leaflets: a free condom.

Barako Batangas is an NGO that supports men having sex with men and transsexuals.

The NGO clarified that the handing out of contraceptives is not an attempt to blatantly show its support for the controversial RH Bill.

“Nagkataon lang na sa pag-iwas ng HIV at AIDS yung use of condom,” Ramolu Gojar, consultant for Barako-Batangas, said.

“Sa usapan ng sexually-transmitted infections ay walang pinipiling panahon, kahit Pasko or Valentine’s Day,” he added. -- Report from Carolyn Boqnuin, ABS-CBN Batangas
