MANILA, Philippines – A Baguio court has extended the temporary environmental protection order (TEPO) issued last April 11 to stop the earth-balling activities on Laguna Hill.

The order was issued by Baguio City Regional Trial Court Branch 5 Judge Antonio Esteves at around 5 p.m. on Friday.

The extension will last until the case filed by environmental group Project Save 182 against SM Corp. is heard.

The earth-balling of Alnus trees in Laguna Hill is part of SM’s plan to construct a 7-storey building and underground parking lot for 1,000 vehicles.

SM, meanwhile, said the earth-balling procedure is necessary to address the problem of top soil erosion in the area. -- Report from Maria Wallis, ABS-CBN News Northern Luzon
