GENERAL SANTOS CITY – More than 1,000 students will graduate from the Mindanao State University (MSU) today.

The batch, called the Maharlika Class, has 3 magna cum laudes and 53 cum laudes.

Among the 3 magna cum laudes is Erick Flores, the son of a jeepney driver.

His father, Edwin, said he had always dreamt of helping his son complete his degree in mechanical engineering, and that pinning his son’s medal would be a bonus.

Flores plans to go to Cebu to review for the board exams.

Meanwhile, the son of a farmer from South Cotabato also finished magna cum laude in civil engineering.

He dedicates his success to his father, who has suffered a stroke. –report from Jay Dayupay, ABS-CBN News SOKSARGEN
