MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set the special elections in the first district of Ilocos Sur on May 28.

The special polls will be held to fill the congressional seat vacated by the jailed Ronald Singson.

Singson resigned from his post early this year after he was sentenced to 18 months in prison for drug charges in Hong Kong.

The filing of certificates of candidacy will be held from May 9 to 13 while the campaign period will be held from May 14 to 26.

The winner will serve the remaining 2 years of Singson's term of office. - ANC
