Boat with 28 resort guests sinks off Agusan

MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) – An elderly woman died after a boat carrying 28 resort guests sank off Agusan del Norte on Tuesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

The lone fatality was Melucina Mahilum, 65. Two of her companions, Antonette Sebia, 36; and Kris Antony Olimpus, 10, were still missing, as of posting.

Another passenger, Susan Janle Beldisma, was injured.

The rest of the passengers, who were guests of Casili Lakeside Resort in Lake Mainit, are now safe.

Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Lieutenant Commander Algier Ricafrente said the boat was met with strong waves. The boat's outrigger was then damaged, causing it to capsize at around 4:30 p.m.

The boat was owned by the municipality of Jabonga.
