Vietnamese poachers nabbed in Palawan

PALAWAN -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Special Boat Unit arrested 11 Vietnamese nationals who were caught poaching off the waters of Taytay, Palawan on Saturday.

Upon inspection, authorities found 50 assorted dead sharks inside their boat.

The initial inventory showed that among the species found inside the boat were great white sharks, bull sharks and hammerhead sharks.

Authorities believe that the sharks all came from the waters of Palawan.

The Vietnamese nationals will be charged with violations of Republic Act 9147, or the Wildlife Act, of Republic Act 8550, or the Fisheries Code of the Philippines. -- report from Ephraim Canoy, ABS-CBN News Palawan
