A former Army intelligence officer was gunned down by two suspected New People's Army (NPA) members in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on Monday.
Retired 2nd Lt. Armando Secuya was at a waiting shed in Barangay Guinpanaan when gunmen attacked him at around 3 p.m.
Police failed to catch the gunmen during a pursuit operation.
Secuya was the husband of a barangay official who is now running for a post in the provincial council.
But investigators believe that the attack is linked to the victim's former role as an intelligence officer in the Army.
The military, meanwhile, condemned the killing and urged rebels to surrender the culprits.
