MANILA - Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes on Thursday lashed out at critics and a Cagayan hotel over the discovery of 3 Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines reportedly left in the province.
Brillantes said the commission en banc discussed today a "Bayan Mo Ipatrol Mo" report about the 3 PCOS machines found in a Cagayan hotel.
Brillantes said the machines were supposed to be used in the training of personnel for the elections.
These were deliberately left behind in the hotel by their staff because they were not functioning, he said.
Brillantes said the hotel mistakenly thought the personnel had already checked out and allowed new clients to use the room even if the Comelec personnel had yet to check out.
He said the units were deactivated and could not be used.
Brillantes said the employees who left the machines in the hotel will not be sanctioned. "Walang sanction. Kasalanan ng hotel for allowing somebody to check into the same room na di pa naka-check out."
He said criticism comes mostly from their usual critics. "Nagsasabi nun, iyung kontra sa mundo eh."
The Comelec is in the middle of training personnel who will manage the conduct of the midterm elections.
It is also delineating the functions of the different accredited citizens' watchgroups.
