MANILA – Tropical storm ''Bavi'' is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
PAGASA weather forecater Benison Estareja said Bavi is set to enter PAR tomorrow, but is not expected to affect any part of the country in the next 48 hours.
As of 4 a.m. Monday, Bavi was located 2,100 kilometers east of Bicol region and was packing maximum winds of 75 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 90 kph. It is forecast to move west southwest at 35 kph.
Estareja said Bavi will be locally named ''Betty'' once it enters PAR. The weather disturbance is forecast to weaken as it approaches the Philippine landmass.
The Hawaii-based Joint Typhoon Warning Center also projects that Bavi's wind strength will decrease as it goes near the Philippines.
