After quitting post, Bukidnon town mayor dies

MANILA -- Maramag, Bukidnon Mayor Alicia Resus passed away on Tuesday morning. She was 55.

Resus quit her post last week after she was diagnosed with a severe illness, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.

Bukidnon Governor Jose Maria Zubiri accepted her resignation.

DILG Region 10 Director Rene Burdeos said no specific illness was mentioned in the mayor's resignation letter.

The Maramag Provincial Hospital has also yet to release a medical bulletin regarding the cause of death of Resus.

Resus will be succeeded by Vice Mayor Jose Obedencio who will take his oath today.

Councilor Jose Joel Doromal will be sworn in as vice mayor.

Meanwhile, Zubiri appointed the husband of Resus, Emmanuel, as councilor.

Resus won her second term as mayor in the last elections. She was a three-termer vice mayor in Maramag from 2001 to 2010. -- Report from Joel Ramirez, ABS-CBN News Northern Mindanao
