A gas station supervisor was robbed and shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in Calamba City, Laguna province, Monday afternoon, police said.

Superintendent Christopher Tambungan, Calamba City police chief, said Petron Gas supervisor Frederick Valencia, 44, was shot and killed by one of the two motorcycle-riding gunmen, who mugged him in front of the Metro Bank branch in Barangay Parian around 4 p.m.

Tambungan said Valencia resisted the two gunmen when they tried to snatch a blue bag, which contained P149,000 cash, from him while about to enter the bank.

The city police chief said one of the robbers hit Valencia in the head with his gun during the scuffle for the bag and the other gunman shot him twice to the head and back of his body.

Bystanders and bank employees rushed to Valencia, but he died while en route to hospital.

Tambungan said the gunmen escaped on a motorcycle with the cash.

Police have yet to identify the suspects.
