A sea turtle rescued in Leyte two weeks ago died Friday after being unable to adjust to a new environment, the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Tacloban City said.

The sea turtle was rescued off Dulag Sea in Leyte on February 20 and was kept in a DA facility due to its weak condition. Authorities said that the sea turtle may have died because it was unable to adjust to new conditions.

Dr. Archie Lluz, Chief of the DA's Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory said, however, that they had tried everything to save the animal.

"We gave antibiotic and let the sea turtle eat some apple and fish. During the first two days it responded and we even let it swim in our fishpond. But during the following days, it became weaker," he said.

The dead sea turtle will reportedly be preserved by doctors instead of being buried.
