MANILA, Philippines -- Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) secretary general Msgr. Joselito Asis on Thursday insisted there is nothing wrong with the "Team Patay vs Team Buhay" poster in a Bacolod City church.
The "Team Patay" list was released by the Diocese of Bacolod to urge voters to junk senatorial candidates who they deem as "anti-life" for supporting the passage of the controversial reproductive health (RH) bill.
"Walang mali sa tarpaulin sa Bacolod diocese," Asis said.
He said each diocese has the authority to decide on how they will inform the people in their community regarding the personalities who support and oppose the RH law.
Asis also said that what the Bacolod diocese could do is to just re-size the poster.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the poster is beyond the allowed 2x3 size limit for campaign posters.
The poll body has sent notice to Bacolod City Bishop Vicente Navarra to remove the oversized poster or risk being held liable for an election offense.
Included in the list of "Team Patay" senatorial aspirants were Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile, former Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros, Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño from Makabayan, Edgardo "Sonny" Angara, and Senators Francis "Chiz" Escudero, Loren Legarda and Alan Peter Cayetano.
Under the "Team Buhay" or "pro-life" candidates were Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, Sen. Koko Pimentel III, former Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar, Sen. Gringo Honasan, San Juan Rep. JV Ejercito, and Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay. -- Report from Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News
