MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - A man believed to be suffering from mental illness due to prolonged drug use killed five of his ageing relatives and wounded another one in Aklan on Saturday morning.
The fatalities were identified as Luciano Rivas, 92, and his wife Anunsascion, 94; Baltazar Rivas, 52; Salvacion Rivas, 84; and Felicidad Rivas.
Another relative, Rosa Rivas, 65, is still being treated at the Dr. Rafael Tumbukon Memorial Hospital in Kalibo.
The suspect is Errol Roldan, 27, who is now under police custody. Roldan also burned their house last year.
Initial investigation said the suspect was armed with an axe and first barged into the home of his grandparents, Luciano and Anunsascion, in Barangay Bulwang in Numancia.
After killing the couple, he then proceeded to his aunt's house which was just 100 meters away.
Police said there were signs that the victims struggled with the suspect. Also, police found the axe used by the suspect still embedded on Baltazar's head. - Report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
