CEBU CITY, Philippines - A supposed romantic honeymoon for an elderly Japanese couple has turned out to be a tragic love ending.

The couple, who checked-in to a beach resort in Marigondon in Lapu-lapu City in Cebu province, was found dead inside their room.

Around 1:10 p.m. the front desk officer of the resort checked the room of the couple to remind them of their scheduled check out. The hotel employee, however, found the woman on the bed with a rope tied around her neck, while her husband was found hanging inside the shower room.

The couple was identified as Takao Ouchi, 70 years old and a retired TV commercial director in Japan, while his wife was identified as Yukiko Ouchi, 84 years old and a former scriptwriter in Japan.

Reports said that the two have been staying in Cebu for 6 years now.

A friend of the couple, Suzuki Hiroshi, said that the couple had no financial problem, nor did they have any problem in their relationship. He said, however, that the 2 often complained of their failing health, especially Yukiko who suffered a stroke last year, and had started to use a wheelchair.

Hiroshi even read the supposed suicide note left by the couple, which was written in Japanese. The note said that the couple was very happy to have spent their last honeymoon together.

Initial investigation of the police showed that there was no foul play involved in the couple’s death and that it was suicide.

Police, meanwhile, are trying to contact relatives of the couple in Japan. Their remains were temporarily brought to the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes.
