MANILA, Philippines - Former Ambassador and Leyte Governor Benjamin “Kokoy” Romualdez has died of cancer.
The younger brother of former First Lady Imelda Marcos passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Makati Medical Center.
According to Bernardita Valenzuela, executive assistant to Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, the former governor died of cancer.
The family plans to bring his remains to Leyte.
Romualdez was appointed by the late President Ferdinand Marcos as ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and United States of America while serving then as Leyte Provincial Governor.
