MANILA, Philippines – AJ Pangandaman, the son of Transportation and Communications CARAGA Regional Director Alim Pangandaman, is now out of danger after he jumped off a bridge in Butuan City early Saturday morning.

Reports said AJ jumped off the Diosdado Macapagal Bridge because he and his girlfriend had a misunderstanding and broke up.

“Noong dumating ang tawag sa amin mga 5 a.m... may tumalon nga daw sa Macapagal Bridge. Nandoon naman ang tropa, naka-standby, naka-prepare, responde agad kami,” said Jaylou Dino, special assistant operation officer of Butuan Search and Rescue Team (Busart).

The Busart was able to find AJ’s body lying in a bamboo raft at around 5:30 a.m. in Purok 2, Bingkila, Barangay San Vicente.

“Nag-search kami sa baba dahil posible na dun sa area sa baba, sa lakas ng current ng tubig doon siya pupulutin,” said Dino.

AJ was reportedly unconscious when he was found.

Investigations said AJ and his girlfriend Mary Grace Mercado were having some drinks in a restaurant bar when they had an argument.

Mercado allegedly stopped AJ from jumping off the bridge but she was not able to prevent him.

Mercado flew all the way to Butuan City just to be with AJ on Valentine’s Day.

The ABS-CBN News team went to the Pangadaman residence and tried to get the side of AJ but he refused to be interviewed. – from a report by Charmane Awitan, ABS-CBN News Caraga
