MANILA - Several families were evacuated from their homes in Purok Tinago in General Santos City on Sunday morning because of a suspected sinkhole.

At 5 a.m., residents said they noticed that the sand in the shallow portion of the shore eroded, creating a big hole.

Local officials helped transfer the affected residents to Ireneo Santiago National High School where they will seek temporary shelter.

An investigation will be conducted to determine the diameter and the cause of the suspected sinkhole. – report from Francis Canlas, ABS-CBN News General Santos City
