MANILA – A total of 100 local tourists and two island caretakers were rescued after being stranded in Sombrero Island in Masbate due to bad sea condition on Tuesday, the Philippine Navy reported.
In a statement, the rescue operation was carried out by the Naval Forces Southern Luzon's Patrol Gun Boat 370 under Lt. Edwin Nuestro Jr.
The tourists were on the last day of their three-day island hopping tour in Sombrero Island when they were prohibited from leaving due to strong winds and very rough sea conditions.
The rescue mission was immediately conducted after distress call from stranded tourists reached the Naval Forces Southern Luzon.
The tourists, mostly from Manila, and the island caretakers were brought to Burias Island.
