MANILA, Philippines – Two female leaders of the New People’s Army (NPA) have been arrested by joint military and police forces in a safe house in Laguna, the military said.
According to Col. Generoso Bolina, spokesman of the Southern Luzon Command, the rebels were arrested in Maitim village, Bay, Laguna at around 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
They were identified by Bolina as Anabelle Bueno and a certain alias “Lara”.
Bolina said the two suspects were arrested by members of the 202nd Infantry Brigade and Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group by virtue of warrants for multiple attempted murder and multiple frustrated murder.
Bolina said Bueno, who uses the aliases “Nancy”, “Maksie”, “Sallie”, “Girlie” and “Rosita Malabanan”, is a member of the executive committee of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee.
Bueno is also the head of the NPA's regional organization department, a member of the Executive Committee Guerilla Unit 1, and the NPA regional finance officer, according to Bolina.
“Lara”, meanwhile, is the finance officer of the NPA's Platoon Magnum of the guerilla unit in Laguna, said Bolina. She is also known as “Fara”.
