MANILA – A dead rare megamouth shark was found in Pio Duran, Albay on Wednesday.
The rare shark, which was 4.6 meters long and weighed a ton, was found by fishermen near the shore of Barangay Marigondon on Wednesday morning.
The carcass was brought by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) personnel to an ice plant in order to prevent its decay.
BFAR officials said the shark will undergo necropsy to determine the cause of its death.
According to BFAR, the rare shark was only the 15th to be spotted in the Philippines and 66th in the world.
