MANILA - A restaurant inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 has been temporarily closed after a portion of its ceiling collapsed early Thursday morning, injuring at least one person.

Manila International Airport Authority spokesperson David de Castro said the wounded passenger, a 30-year-old American national bound for US, was given immediate medical attention and no other was seriously hurt from the incident.

According to initial investigation, the ceiling of Sweet Ideas Restaurant at the airport's pre-departure area was made of substandard materials which may have led to the collapse.

MIAA stressed construction of structures inside commercial spaces of the NAIA terminal is the sole responsibility of concessionaires.

De Castro added MIAA will impose penalties on the concessionaire should it be proven that substandard materials were used for the restaurant's construction.

The restaurant will remain closed until the end of the investigation.
