MANILA - Senator Sergio Osmeña III on Tuesday said the head of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) must be fired over the discovery of the luxurious lifestyle of some high profile inmates in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
"Heads should roll already," he said in an ambush interview. "Hindi puwedeng sabihin ng head ng BuCor na, 'Ah, hindi ko alam 'yan.'"
"You're either lying or you're incredibly incompetent. In either case, you should go," Osmeña said.
In an interview on ANC, BuCor director Franklin Bucayu said he is staying put, claiming that he merely inherited the problems in the penal system and that he himself is leading the reforms.
Bucayu said he is optimistic that reforms, which include effective segregation, can still be done.
He said organizational and administrative problems within the correctional system also need to be addressed while jail officials need better training. -- With ANC
