MANILA -- High profile murder convict Rolito Go believes he has served his maximum sentence and should now be released from prison.
Speaking to radio dzMM on Saturday, Go said he should be given special consideration especially since he has been dealing with colon cancer for the past five years.
Go also denied reports he has been receiving special treatment.
Reports have emerged that Go has been in and out of the New Bilibid Prison for the past four months to visit his home in Quezon City and to undergo chemotherapy at a private hospital.
"Tapos na po ang maximum sentence ko. Umaasa po ako na sana mapalaya na po ako... Sana makasama ko na ang pamilya ko ngayong Pasko," Go said.
Go was convicted for the killing of De La Salle engineering student Eldon Maguan whom he shot during a traffic altercation in San Juan in 1991.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1993 by the Pasig Regional Trial Court.
Go bolted the Rizal provincial jail in Pasig three days before his conviction but was arrested in Pampanga in 1996.
In 2009, Go was moved out of the maximum security area of the New Bilibid Prison, prompting an outcry from the Maguan family.
"Sana mapatawad na rin niya ako. Hindi ko naman talaga intensyon yung away na biglaan sa kalsada. Hindi naman intensyon, hindi naman murder... Yung away biglaan lang, hindi naman sinadya," Go said. -- ANC
