MANILA, Philippines – More than 200 kilos of Peking duck and assorted poultry and pork products from China were confiscated by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) from a storage facility in Barangay San Rafael, Navotas on Wednesday.
The products were smuggled into the country without permits from either the Bureau of Animal Industry or Department of Agriculture.
The shipment also didn’t pass through an inspection by quarantine officers in port customs, according to Atty. Jean Bacayo, executive director of the NMIS.
Poultry and pork products imported from China are still banned entry into the country because the products have not been cleared for bird flu virus and foot and mouth disease. -- Report from ABS-CBN News
