MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – The girlfriend of slain actor Ramgen Revilla began undergoing facial reconstruction on Monday.
Janelle Manahan, who survived a gunshot wound to the face, entered the holding room of the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City at 6 a.m. She was transferred to the operating room an hour later.
The operation, meant to address Janelle’s facial fractures, is expected to last for 5 to 6 hours. Six doctors are doing the operation on her.
Janelle suffered 4 fractures on her left and right cheek, nose and jaw from a bullet that entered just below her left eye and exited through her right neck. Another bullet pierced her right shoulder and exited through her arm.
During the surgery, doctors would be attaching titanium metal plates on Janelle’s left and right cheek. Bone grafts from her right rib will also be placed on her jaw. They would also be attaching a brace that will lock her jaw.
The operation would also require her to be on liquid diet for 6 to 8 weeks. She would be undergoing therapy and counseling after the surgery.
Janelle was accompanied by her father, Julius, and other relatives. The family is in high spirits despite the recent developments.
She only learned of Ram’s death Saturday night.
The older Manahan refused to disclose if any member of the Revilla clan has already visited. He also did not say whether the influential family has given them financial assistance.
He added the family is focused on her speedy recovery, refusing to talk about the controversy surrounding the incident.
"Hindi kami dumi-distansya sabihin na lang po ang major concern namin ngayon ay manumbalik kung ano ang nawala kay Janelle at makapag-move on...physically, emotionally," he said. - reports from Dennis Datu, dzMM and Pia Gutierrez, ABS-CBN News
