MANILA - Senator Nancy Binay on Monday said her family does not know the person who threatened singer Jim Paredes on the social networking site Twitter and has nothing to do with the tweet.
"Porke ba’t pinagtatanggol ang ating Vice President kami na ang nagthe-threaten sa kanya?" Binay told reporters.
Paredes has filed a complaint before the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Division against a certain Rex Vincent Tecson, who tweeted that the singer will be "salvaged" or killed because of his tweets against Vice President Jejomar Binay.
The singer earlier said he will not be cowed by this incident and will continue to air his political commentary online.
Senator Binay, who was often criticized on social media during the 2013 senatorial elections for her lack of experience in public office, also offered advice to Paredes in dealing with Twitter bashers.
"I've been bashed. I've been threatened on social media," she said.
"If you participate sa mundo na 'yon, I think dapat hindi ka sensitive, matibay ang loob mo."
Paredes earlier said he is not linking the threat by Tecson to any politician.
He said he reported the death threat to the PNP "because threats of death or injury online should be taken seriously."
He added: "We may all argue and be poles apart and may even have heated discussions about issues, but the moment insults and threats enter the picture, that's the time we lose all civility. I would rather block you than continue."
