MANILA, Philippines – Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim ordered that all banners, posters, billboards and streamers bearing his face be removed.

This, after Lim passed by some areas in Manila and noticed posters or banners with his face flashed, either extending greetings or making announcements.

Lim said he is grateful that some people do not forget to give him credit for his valuable projects in the city.

He, however, maintained there is no need to see his face in banners and posters because it is really his job to conduct worthwhile projects.

Lim further said he was never asked if he wants his face put on banners or streamers.

“Marami diyan nilalagay ang pangalan ko pati ang mukha ko, ni hindi nagpapaalam o nagsasabi man lang sa akin. Yung iba nga inaaway pa ako tapos nagpapaskil naman ng kung anu-anong gimik nila na kasama pati ang mukha ko,” Lim said.

Lim stressed his face never appeared in notices of construction or project undertaken through his administration’s initiative.

“My constant reminder to city officials is to always put the words ‘this is where your taxes go’ instead of putting my face or name in whatever undertaking they may implement,” he said.

Lim said he never authorized anyone to post his face or name anywhere in the city.

“Siguro ‘yung iba iniisip na makatutulong sa kanila kaya ginagawa nila yun na isinasama pa ang mukha ko pero ako, I never authorized it kaya pinatatanggal ko. Kahit kailan, hindi ko pinayagan yun gaya nung mga pagbati sa piyesta o sa mga graduates,” he said.

Lim ordered his chief of staff Ric de Guzman to ensure that his order to remove these posters be implemented.
