Police on Wednesday afternoon arrested a man for possession of more than 1,000 pieces of abortion pills in Quiapo district, Manila.
Senior Superintendent Arnulfo Ybañez, Manila police Station 3 chief, identified the suspect as Jose Laura of Libertad, Pasay City.
Ybañez said Laura was arrested in an entrapment operation on Quezon Boulevard near Palanca Street in Quiapo district around 4 p.m.
The police officer said Laura was arrested for possession of 1,400 pieces of an abortion drug called cytotec worth P210,000. Also seized from the suspect were 150 pieces of mathargine uterotonic tablets worth P7,500 and 247 pieces of herbal capsules worth P12,350.
Ybañez said the arrest was made after his office was informed about Laura's supposed delivery of abortion pills in Quiapo.
He said that according to Laura, he was paid P300 by a Pakistani national to deliver the pills. He said manhunt operations have been launched for the arrest of the alleged supplier.
