MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – A Manila-bound Cebu Pacific domestic flight made an emergency landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Wednesday morning after one of its engines burst into flames, the airport’s media affairs office said.

Cebu Pacific flight 5J 454, which originated from Iloilo, made a safe landing at the airport’s runway 06-24 at 11:18 a.m., about 30 minutes after its pilot requested for a priority landing due to a failed engine.

The commercial plane had 124 passengers and seven flight crew members. It was manned by Captain Benjamin Baquiauo.

Octavio Lina, NAIA Terminal 3 manager, said the plane landed smoothly and its passengers were not injured.

The passengers only realized that the plane went on emergency status upon landing.

Fire trucks immediately followed the plane upon landing as a part of its engine was already burning.

No other flights were affected due to the incident. – with Raoul Esperas
