MANILA, Philippines – An assistant cameraman was injured after violence erupted between militant groups and policemen along Commonwealth Avenue on Monday morning.

The cameraman, identified as Mike Gonzales of GMA 7, was hit in the head with a rock allegedly coming from the protesters.

The protesters, reportedly from Anakpawis and Unyon ng Manggagawa sa Agrikultura (UMA), threw rocks at the policemen after they were prevented from going near the Batasan Complex where President Aquino is scheduled to deliver his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) this afternoon.

Gonzales was rushed to the nearby New Era General Hospital for treatment.

More policemen were placed at the site of the clash to prevent members of the militant groups from going near the Batasang Pambansa.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) earlier said it will deploy about 6,000 policemen for today’s event. – report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
