MANILA, Philippines - A hacker has defaced the website of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

The incident was discovered on Monday by Internet users.

Instead of the MWSS website greeting visitors, people are redirected to another site that shows an anime character.

"This country is run by Mahou Shoujo #MadokasquadPh," according to the header on the webpage.

The core contents of the MWSS' website seem intact and its index page was apparently the only one affected by the hacking.

The altered landing page was still up, as of posting.

Hackers manage to redirect the landing page of websites by either injecting malicious javacript codes or modifying header files, according to technology forums.

MWSS officials have yet to comment on the incident.

An online search shows that the same hacker also defaced the ASEAN Food Safety Network website. (https://www.aseanfoodsafetynetwork.net)

Other government websites belonging to the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Bulacan provincial government have also fallen prey to hackers.
