Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada faces Jonathan Bassey, Manila's most wanted person
MANILA – Manila's most wanted man has been arrested after his photo was posted on the social networking site Facebook.
Jonathan Bassey alias ''Dodong Simbolo'', who had a P200,000 bounty on his head, was arrested by Baguio City police at a jeepney terminal on Kayang Street on Tuesday evening.
Bassey is wanted for two cases of murder in the city of Manila.
''May mga informant tayo na nagsabi na dito daw siya sa Baguio nagtatago. With the coordination sa Manila Police District, inutusan ko din ang mga intelligence unit natin, nahuli natin ito,'' said Sr. Supt. Rolando Miranda, chief of Baguio City Police.
According to Supt. Dante Lubos, chief of the intelligence unit of Baguio City Police, a relative of one of Bassey's victims saw the suspect in a photo posted on Facebook by his friend.
This gave authorities the idea that the suspect was hiding in Baguio.
Bassey allegedly stabbed dead a certain Allan Padilla along Batangas St., Tondo Manila on August 7, 2007.
On December 25, 2008, Bassey allegedly shot dead a certain Mark Anthony Allan So on Almeda St., also in Tondo.
Bassey denied the charges, saying he only acted in self-defense.
''Ginawa ko lang po yun kasi sinaksak nila yung kapatid ko. Dinepensahan ko lang po yung sarili ko,'' he said. - reports from Micaella Ilao, ABS-CBN News Northern Luzon; and Zhander Cayabyab, dzMM
