MANILA - The Supreme Court (SC), in its En Banc session on Tuesday, directed former President and incoming Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada to answer the petition filed by his erstwhile rival in the recently concluded polls, outgoing Mayor Alfredo Lim.
Lim urged the high court to allow him to intervene in the case filed by one Atty. Alicia Risos-Vidal who sought the cancellation of Estrada's certificate of candidacy in the May polls.
Vidal argued that Estrada may not be allowed to run for any elective post because his pardon for his plunder conviction was conditional, not absolute.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) denied Vidal's plea with finality, causing her to elevate her case before the high court.
Lim is seeking the high court's green light to join Vidal's cause.
Estrada won over Lim, with 343,993 votes; Lim got 308,544 votes.
