MANILA, Philippines – A woman is facing estafa charges for skipping out on her bills for two branches of a 5-star hotel.
The suspect, Marites Bermido, stayed at the hotel's Boracay branch and left without settling her bill.
Bermido then stayed at the hotel's EDSA branch from June 5 until June 7, and again left without paying.
Authorities said the suspect used the hotel’s spa and room services that amounted to around P46,000.
Bermido then checked in at the hotel’s Makati branch on Monday, and was arrested after hotel staff notified police.
“Minsan kasi ‘yung self-fulfillment nila na hindi kasi sila maka-afford, so may pera sila pero not to spend sa mga 5-star hotel,” said Sr. Supt. Manuel Lukban Jr., chief of Makati Police.
In Pasay City, a man is also facing estafa charges for skipping out on his motel bill.
The suspect, Marco Gonzaga Saca, is also facing charges of theft, damage to property, and attempted homicide after he hit a hotel staff with his car when he tried to escape.
Saca allegedly skipped out on the bills and stole the room’s TV in the motel’s Malate and Buendia branches.
“Sinabi niya na sige bababa ako to settle the bills. Noong bumaba siya, nagkaroon ng commotion, kasi itong suspect natin, he boarded ‘yung sasakyan niya,” said Insp. Joey Goforth, chief of the Pasay Police Criminal Investigation Division.
Saca remains at large. -- Report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
