MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has junked the electoral protest filed against incumbent Pasay City Mayor Antonio Calixto.

Comelec said the accusations made by mayoralty candidate Consuelo “Connie” Dy in relation to alleged irregularities in vote canvassing in the 2010 elections have no merit.

In the decision issued by Comelec 2nd division, led by presiding commissioner Lucinito Tagle, there were no defects in the 74 clustered precincts in question.

Comelec said Dy was not able to prove that the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines used were defective.

Calixto defeated Dy in the 2010 polls by less than 3,000 votes. -- Report from Ricky Velasco, dzMM
