Binay son leads Makati mayoralty race

MANILA, Philippines - Councilor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr., son of incumbent Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, is leading the race for the mayor's post in the country's financial district, a survey by Social Weather Stations revealed Thursday.

The special SWS Makati City Survey of April 7-9, 2010, sponsored by Mr. Victor Limlingan, Jr., has the following scores in the Makati Mayoralty race: Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. (46%), Ernesto Mercado (24%), Erwin Genuino (18%), Agapito Aquino (1%), Edmundo Tagalog (0.3%), and undecided/others (11%).

SWS said a total of 600 registered voters in Makati Districts 1 and 2 participated in the survey. Respondents were asked the question: "If the elections were held today, whom would you most probably vote for as mayor of Makati City?"

SWS said Binay led voter preference in the 2 Makati districts as well as all socioeconomic classes.

In the First District of Makati, the survey scores are: Binay 51%, Mercado 21%, Genuino 17%, Aquino 2%, and Tagalog 0.7%. Nine percent were undecided.

In the Second District, the scores are: Binay 41%, Mercado 26%, Genuino 19%, and Aquino 1%. None of the Second District sample chose Tagalog; 13% were undecided.

The class ABC scores are: Binay 51%, Mercado 19%, and Genuino 10%. None of the class ABC sample chose Aquino and Tagalog; 20% were undecided.

In class D or the masa, the scores are: Binay 44%, Mercado 26%, Genuino 19%, Aquino 1%, and Tagalog 0.2%. Ten percent were undecided.

The class E scores are: Binay 48%, Mercado 20%, Genuino 17%, Aquino 2%, and Tagalog 0.7%. Twelve percent were undecided.
