MANILA, Philippines - A 69-year-old man killed his 61-year-old neighbor following an argument over dog poo in Caloocan City Saturday afternoon, an official said yesterday.
Construction worker Edilberto Torres was charged with murder after he was arrested for stabbing Virgilio Tumbali, said Chief Inspector Ilustre Mendoza, who heads the Caloocan police investigation division.
Investigators said Tumbali earlier confronted Torres for allowing his dog to defecate near his house and not cleaning up the mess.
Another police officer said the confrontation angered the suspect, who harbored a grudge against the victim over a deep well in their area.
Tumbali was talking with two neighbors when Torres approached him from behind and stabbed him repeatedly at around 4:30 p.m., Mendoza said.
The victim ran toward the barangay hall but the suspect followed and tried to finish him off. A barangay watchman overpowered Torres and brought him to the police station.
Tumbali died on the way to the Dr. Jose Rodriguez Hospital.
