MANILA - Unless ordered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Makati Vice Mayor Romulo ''Kid'' Peña said yesterday he will continue to serve as the city’s acting mayor.
''Just to be consistent, I am just following the ombudsman's preventive suspension order, whose enforcement was delegated to the DILG, which had named me acting mayor,'' he said.
Peña said while the Court of Appeals (CA) has made it clear that it is stopping the implementation of the ombudsman’s preventive suspension order indefinitely, he cannot simply step down until the Supreme Court rules on the ombudsman’s petition for review of the CA order.
He also told reporters that he has received “threatening” calls on his mobile phone at least four times since he assumed the post of acting mayor in mid-March.
Councilor Marie Alethea Casal-Uy, on the other hand, warned Peña against ''misrepresenting'' himself as acting mayor after the CA issued its writ of preliminary injunction.
She also reiterated her appeal for Peña to sign the documents authorizing the release of the salaries of the city councilors, their personnel and employees under the Office of the Vice Mayor for March and April.
Peña refused to sign the documents, insisting that as acting mayor, it was no longer part of his duties.
