MANILA -- A man was arrested after he was caught threatening students and taking their cellphones.

Jason Fuentes, 38, was arrested in Barangay 470 in Sampaloc, Manila on Wednesday after he was caught in the act of threatening a student.

Investigation showed that Fuentes pretended to be a barangay official, threatened his victims, and took away their cellphones.

Eight of his victims went to the barangay hall to give their statements. Two first-year high school students said they gave Fuentes their cellphones after he accused them of not paying the exact amount for the milk tea drink they bought at a store.

Another victim, "Jessica," said Fuentes took her phone after he caught her throwing a plastic cup at the sidewalk.

Fuentes, who used to work as a barber, admitted to the crime, adding that he has victimized around 20 students.

He said he was deep in debts.

Authorities advised students in the area to immediately report any similar incidents to them. -- report from Niko Baua, ABS-CBN News
